A home away from home

Delhi is the most beautiful city that I have lived in so far. It has everything one needs to love a person. Yes, Dilli is a person for me. A living thriving genderless person which has been here since ages and will remain so. History, metropolis culture, great public transportation and the delicious food. Even the people here are not that bad as usually stated. I proudly tell everyone that I am a Dilliwala. I could write pages on Delhi itself, but I would like to tell what really makes it so special to me.

I am a Delhi-ite because I have a home here. Although in NCR in Uttar Pradesh, Shivam Khand at Vasundhara sector 19 has been my Shangri-la. A family lives there, which has embraced me like their son. I have been their numerous times and not once felt like an outsider. I feel so loved with them. I love hearing their crazy stories and funny one liners. It feels like family.

I have never had a large Indian family with cousins and relatives constantly buzzing around. And I have learned to like it that way. But something in me always missed being with cousins, aunts and uncles with whom I could be a child ever time. I feel that is the biggest reason I am so much into them.

Like Don Vito said, 'A man who doesn't spend time with his family is not a true man'. I will always be indebted to Uncle (although I have never met him), Promila aunty, Pooja di, Nidhi and of course, Sakshi.

The magic happened at 9 PM on a Tuesday in June'25. There was waiting, then cries and shivering. But the process had started around 8.30 in the morning. The water broke as she sat in the living room. Sakshi had wondered how she would know whether it was a water break or a false alarm. But coming out of the loo, she could confidently say that her water was broken. Even the Leave campaign supporters woke up to the shock that they had won. Brexit was finally here. It was so crude that the National Democratic Party of Britain had to admit the fact, within hours, that the 350m Pound it had promised to bring back into the National Health System was a lie. Another point they admitted was that migration would not be stopped. The remain campaign also had their fair share of lies. But sadly, they did not get a chance to admit them.
