The Myth of Sisyphus

Image
Again I roll the rock up the hill It's completely against my will Every day is Groundhog day Be it July December or May I am an eternal prisoner Punished for being a cheater I deceived the gods twice The third time they trapped me like a mice My prison is very beautiful Large lakes and trees bountiful Sun, moon and a hill And I never have to pay a bill I can't enjoy any of these They have locked me and threw the keys I don't wake up as I never sleep I can't laugh and I can't weep My only friend is this spherical rock It laughs at me and mocks I am bound to it by destiny I am also its only casualty I start at the bottom, pushing upwards I try not to look backward And as I reach near the peak The bottom the rock seeks I run after it to pull it back But if I try my ribs crack Down it goes the hill With no one in its path to kill Again I have to roll the rock up the hill My life got no chill There is no time in this place So horrible is my case I tried hard to escape O...

Challenges in Pricing a House

*Long Read* Overview: Housing prices all over the world are subject to a lot of interest. At their best, they can be a strong leading indicator of the economy and at their worst, they can cause bubbles that cripple the entire financial system. In India, Housing prices have been much maligned for increasing the cost of living, especially in Tier 1 cities. There is a lot of bargain involved and the prices are murky at best, with hidden challenges as well. This article tries to summarize the problems and gives an understanding as to why pricing a House is extremely challenging (with a few comparisons with FMCG/FMCD sector) Basis:  Real Estate comes under the 'alternate investments' category. Other alternate investments include atypical investments like Wines, Arts, etc.  A thread that binds this class of investments every SKU is different. A Van Gough painting is different from a Picasso painting. Also, all Van Gough paintings are different. Houses follow the same logic. No two h...

Top 4 things to do when you don't know what to do

Most of us have gone through a time in life where things much makes sense. In childhood, there is less to worry about because we have not developed any sort of critical thinking capability. As we grow into a teenager, we are brash and unashamed, ready to take on the world and make something fruitful of our lives. By the time we reach our late twenties and early thirties, we are partially settled, have a steady income, girlfriend, healthy lifestyle, etc. This is the time a person can take two different paths, in philosophical terms. Either he/she can become a person described by society as 'normal'. This normal person will continue with his life's plan of fostering relationships and making money, buy things, have kids, travel, and will learn to live with love and tragedy until the time he dies. He will ignore all the things that are wrong with life, will not think about his existence, and lead a purposeful life. 90-99% of the humans end up doing this. Or a person can ge...

The war for Earth: Episode 17 - Man vs Virus.

After another Home Sapien Sapien (HSS) victory, this time over the Viruses (Vs) HSS: Take a look back when you go a thousand bodies and smokey ashes Hit like an AK, but you cam slow Left everyone at an all-time low. Vs: Is it so? You hardly remember your history I have always been there when you are past your glory. Look back, you say? But you ever? Killed billions and left blood full of sewers. HSS: I killed to make the world better to get rid of tyrants and traitors But don't digress, I have won and you never come back Shot you with a vaccine in your sack. Vs: I am older and wiser, be humble in your victory. I will come back. When I return, remember my name & show some respect. Don't look back in anger, your time is limited. I am your fate's architect.

Organs in the time of Corona

Corona Virus has finally landed here. When the skull carrying me was in Bali and saw the depressing state of their decorated and empty places, I was a little worried. I felt sad for the harsh economic reality which will hit the Balinese. Although I admit that I was a little happy that there wasn't too much crowd and the volcanic island could be enjoyed in peace. The virus was very evident at the airports, especially in KL. Everyone including this person's mouth was covered with something. Now the virus has moved the center to Europe. I don't know how, but I have got it now. "How to prevent getting Covid-19" is the #1 search everywhere. There has been a bombardment of instructions, warning signs, preventive measures and quarantine guidelines everywhere. I have absorbed all of this. In my sleep I hear the deadly caller tune. So much so that when the body got the virus, I panicked and started doing things which were actually guidelines on how to prevent it. I...

High time to go

Image
I have always admired Australian cricketers of the 2000s. Arrogant, aggressive, always on banter mode and brilliant at their game. They dominated the landscape of cricket last seen by the great West Indian side of the 70s by my father. But the quality that I admired most in them was not related to cricket at all. Rather, it was a very peculiar soft skill, which was very different to the general mentality amongst Indians - to leave on a high, where they were could exit on their terms and not become semi retired and pose a headache for selection committees. Of course, the cricketers didn't have much to do after calling it a time as they had finished their careers. Indian cricketers of that time were remarkably great too, especially the batsmen. They were fabulous at the game but their exits were lingering, following the path of professionals whose skills (fitness and fielding in particular) had been outdated. This left a bad taste in the mouth and rather soiled their legacies t...
