The born night

The magic happened at 9 PM on a Tuesday in June'25. There was waiting, then cries and shivering. But the process had started around 8.30 in the morning. The water broke as she sat in the living room. Sakshi had wondered how she would know whether it was a water break or a false alarm. But coming out of the loo, she could confidently say that her water was broken. Almost everything was packed, yet a few items were to be put in. By 9.30 AM, we were at the hospital.

Yes indeed, the water had broken. All forms have been filled out and now a waiting period. Of what? Pain!! Who wants pain, yet at that time, pain was the only thing Sakshi desired. But the baby had other plans; she slept peacefully in the womb.

While wearing her surgical gloves, Dr Rituparna Bera Sarkar asked Sakshi which gender she favoured. She said, slightly inclined towards a girl, the doctor passed a smile. Five minutes later, an assistant chirped, Doctor has fulfilled your wish. Siya touched her mother and started sucking milk. One more of Sakshi's wishes for a good latch was fulfilled instantly. It was her day.

Siya came out in the hands of a nurse. Sakshi's mother and I were waiting. Magic had a face, and baby pink had a colour, and her name was Siya.
