The language we pick up
I have been living for 6 months in the Southern part of
India (Can I call it South India without sounding like a North Indian pig?).
Meeting and observing people from the vagaries of life is so exciting. Often
the people I have met have Hindi as their 3rd or 4th
language.
While conversing, they will definitely try to bring in a few
Hindi catch phrases so as to sound more relatable. What’s the most common catch
phrase they use?
Nahi yaar
What’s the most common words they use? Par, lekin and nahi.

So is it true that we catch the negative words first? I
remember, when I was in Gujarat, my favorite line was “Upartho nathi”.
What’s my go to phrase in the local language? “Ondu nimisha”. phew..takes my breath away. I have always heard it when someone wants to stop someone from talking. I use it randomly anywhere I wish.
And of course, Neevu kare madutiruvu.
Auto response on phone calls rules my life.
are nahi yaar!
