Epiphany
Yay!....Finally I had my second epiphany today. In 21 years , I have made two utterly compelling and plausible conclusions to two of the most trivial questions I have faced in my life. I would like to share them with you:
"Why do Bollywood heroes always win in the end but it is not the same for Hollywood movies?"
Let's see it from a mythological point of view. Have your ever heard a tale or story where Krishna or Ram were defeated ? I haven't. And I believe you also haven't come across any such anecdote. On the other hand ,Christ was crucified , humiliated , dragged and beaten to death. Even being the son of God didn't help him survive truculence and he died within 3 hours.
The point is, our movies are inspired by our Gods and our religion.Hinduism doesn't allow a moral proved until the God (hero) wins. Christianity allows it.They can have the hero losing or dead and still they give the lesson which the movie wanted to give.
Hinduism always seeks a positive ending. So until the hero wins , majority of our people won't give a nudge to the movie.
Credit goes to Life of Pi for making me understand this concept.
"Why can't any other sport be more popular than cricket in India ever?"
We can do a history check again. Both the sports developed in England. Cricket is a gentleman's game and was played by aristocrats at the time of The Raj. All the lords, viceroys came to India and played cricket. They never played football. The game struck chords with out 'cute' villagers. They thought of it as a modified version of gilli-danda.So, this sport has been installed in our culture since last three centuries and has become a sort of religion now.(Considering half of the religions in the world originated in our country, you shouldn't be surprised if some fateful day cricket also took the form of idol worship. No surprises as to whom the Lord will be.)
As for football, which is the most popular game in the world, but quite a few followers in India it was always the game of the bourgeois. They traveled to Spain , Italy , Brazil, Argentina etc.looking for trade (and not raj)...they gave this sport to them, which they follow with equal sanctity as Indians follow cricket.Football in India is growing. It is at the Akshay Kumar stage. It has it's faithful followers, but can never be a Khan.
Thence, the question that other sporting legends apart from cricket always ask,"Why we are not treated like superstars?" or "Why don't I get to do ads with beautiful models when an ugly Ishant Sharma can do?", are all but time hogging ones and should be left aside.
I take the sole credit for this conclusion.
